``L I L Y the espeon ;; level one-hundred
It was a nice, quiet night; a small spring breeze whispered in the air, and a crescent moon hung in the inky night sky. Millions of stars twinkled like fireflies in the air, casting a silver glow over the city square. Barely a whisper could be heard; in fact, much of the town was asleep.
However, not all of the town was asleep. Barely a sound was heard as a Pokemon stepped out of the woods at the edge of the town square, honey-gold eyes gleaming in the dark night. Slick, silky lavender fur seemed to shine in the low light, and a forked tail swayed slightly, moving back and forth. Large ears twitched as the Espeon glanced around, padding forward and pausing slightly before jumping on the fountain in the middle of the square, sitting on her haunches, just…waiting.

Umbra- Level 100
A dark shape padded up to the fountain slowly, it's steps precise, yet easy going.
It was Umbra. The male umbreon's red/silver eyes widened in surprise at Lily standing on the fountain. He entertained the hope... After all, he didn't think the pretty espeon held a huge interest in him... After all, the flirting could have just been what it had been... Flirting, nothing more.
This means she is actually interested in you old boy...
Umbra felt like standing on his hind legs and yelling to the world his joy and triumph, but deciding to act more dignified, he merely grinned to Lily as he padded up to the fountain edge, the gold bands on his body shimmering slightly.
With a fluid and graceful leap, he got onto the concrete edge next to her. Umbra looked like he spent some time on his pelt, grooming it to a smooth, black sheen. His red eyes, flecked with silver, met Lily's honey ones.
His heart started hammering, though on the outside, he looked calm and confident. The night sky seemed to create an almost otherwordly aura around Umbra. He was in his element.
"{Hello Lily. You look very nice. How are you?}" Umbra complimented.

The Espeon gave Umbra a small smile as the Dark type leaped onto the fountain beside her, meeting his eyes with warm golden ones. The Umbreon looked different in the moonlight...being in his own element, the night, really complemented him well. {"I'm doing fine, thanks,"} Lily said/purred, tilting her head and flicking a large ear. {"You look very nice too, Umbra,"} the Espeon added almost nonchalantly, although it was clearly a compliment.

Umbra tilted his black head an bowed, long, fox like ear twitching slightly. "{I aim to please.}" He purred back. "{Though to be perfectly honest, I would much rather admire another's beauty, such as yourself. The glorious sun modeled after you, cannot compare really.}" His tone was smooth, with a bit of slyness and mirth.
"{Well... I had some plans... A walk really. Not too far... I wanted to bring you to the roof tops of the old church tower. You can see the city and the night sky in all it's glory.}"

Lily laughed softly, the Espeon's voice clear and melodic. {"You're too much Umbra..."} the Psychic Pokemon replied, voice filled with mirth. {"I'm flattered."} The Espeon then became serious at Umbra's next words, blinking then smiling. {"Really? That sounds lovely."} A crooked, almost silly grin appeared on Lily's face. {"Please, lead this maiden's way Sir Umbra."}

Silly grin met silly grin as Umbra stretched on the concrete edge of the fountain, the gentle gurgling of the fountain soothingly echoing in the city square. "{Cool.} He stated as he playfully rubbed Lily's shoulder before leaping down. "{If you don't mind, I thought we could talk as we got there. Learn a little about each other you know?}"

Lily purred, following the Umbreon down and walking beside him as they headed to the church. The Espeon smiled softly and shrugged in response to Umbra's question. {"Sure."} A grin. {"Who's gonna start, me or you?"}

"{I'll start if you don't mind...}" Umbra said thoughtfully.
"{You seem kinda different.}" Umbra informed with a smile. "{You seem more open and outgoing. Do you just act composed in public, or does it have something to do with your trainer?}" He asked, tone surprisingly serious and respectful, even though he had that contagious smile of his. "{Or is it just my personality?}" He couldn't help adding slyly.

Lily chuckled softly, flicking an ear in amusement. {“Aren’t you an observant one?”} she noted, smiling before becoming more serious again. {“You’re right…I usually act more serious and composed in public. Maybe it’s just being around strangers…it’s not that I don’t like them or don’t trust them…I was just raised to be respectful toward others. But at home, with Rain and with others I know well…I do tend to loosen up a bit.”} The Espeon gained a small, sly smile as well. {“Of course, it could have something to do with you as well. You’re not the type that’s easy to be serious around.”}
Lily then glanced at Umbra with golden eyes. {“Enough about me though…what about you? Share your life story,”} the Espeon purred, only half-joking.

Umbra looked a little sober as he recalled his past years. "{Well... I was a stray evee, growing up in Goldenrod. Life was a little hard, I didn't have a father, and my mother had an old injury she eventually succumbed to. I was... Left on my own.}"
Umbra sighed as they padded on. "{I never liked to fight or to bully to get food from trash cans... So the streeters took to shaking me down when I rarely managed to find food on my own... I was a starving, pathetic mess, and the humans didn't like to see a dirty, filthy, sickly, so hungry bones stuck out of my sides evee... I wasn't very cute then like I am now.}"
{"Well one day, I was rescued by Silver's mom... She's a Nurse Joy believe it or not. And took me in... Silver, my trainer, visited between Goldenrod and Ercuteak on his bike... And saw me in the emergency room... He watched his mom take care of me... And when helping her out with the food and medicine, we started getting used to each other and forming a bond... I don't know... It was like you and Rain I suppose. Soon after, growing up with pokemon all his life, Silver wanted to become a trainer, and I was determined to be his starter.}"
Umbra shrugged good natured. "{We traveled around Johto, fighting, getting stronger. We got Theo and Suchi soon after. Before attempting the last two badges from Pryce, Clair, and then the Elite Four we decided to go to Hoenn. There, we got Kriss... That was an interesting situation... And when we came here to train, well, thats where we are now I suppose... We had been on the move for years now. For being a gym leader's and nurse's son, as well as a future member of the gym leader's committee, Silver gets a steady salary in mail, and he is careful with his money.}"
The first parts were sobering and sad, though he did smile more at the end... Most would think with Umbra's happy go lucky nature, that such an event never occurred... But it was true. And he told it all without hesitation. The truth was the truth after all.

Lily was dead silent as she listened to Umbra’s story, golden eyes closed thoughtfully. When the Umbreon’s story finally finished, the Espeon was hushed for many moments more before she finally opened her eyes and spoke.
{“You’ve had a hard life,”} the Psychic type mused quietly. {“But it’s those difficult things in life that show you how much life is really worth, isn’t it?”} The Espeon fell into a contemplative silence before she spoke again, now very quiet. {“I would know.”}
Honey eyes closed again as Lily continued to walk, the thoughtful look reappearing. {“I suppose it’s my turn now…it’s interesting. My story actually has many parallels to yours…”}
{“I was born to two Espeon...they belonged to a breeder here in Cameron, and I was of a very fine lineage of purebred Eevees and Eeveelutions. I had two siblings as well – Eevees, of course.”} Golden eyes opened again, although they were slightly unfocused. {“I never had much time with my family though...I never even knew any of their names. In fact, we never got names. I was sold to a coordinator who also lived here…Stella was her name. She was very nice, and she treated me very well…she loved me greatly. It was under her care I evolved into an Espeon – and very quickly, which I suppose just goes to show how happy I was.”}
The Espeon let out a small sigh. {“But then the first wave of the epidemic came, and my whole world just came crashing down. Stella…she was one of the first to die. I was left completely alone to fend for myself on the streets. I wasn’t very good at it…not only had I lived under the care of the care of my trainer for my whole life, I was also peaceful, and I wasn’t one who would instantly pick a fight. I was picked on by those who weren’t sick, and all the humans were too panicked about the epidemic to worry about a neglected Espeon.”}
{“That is, except for one…”} A small bittersweet smile appeared on Lily’s face. {“Professor Lilian…she may not be my trainer anymore, but I owe my life to her, and I love her as dearly as I love Rain. I was on the verge of death when she found me in the middle of winter, a few months after my trainer died…starving, badly injured, and sick. She was still young back then…only about sixteen or seventeen…but she’d spent her life learning about Pokemon, and she knew a lot even at her young age. It was Lilian who nursed me back to health even when she had so many others to worry about as well.”}
{“Rain was one of those people she had to worry about…their parents had both died by then, and Lilian was taking care of Rain, who was only six or seven. I met her a couple weeks after Lilian found me. I loved her immediately, and we only bonded more afterward…she gave me my name, Lily, after her cousin Lilian, and she helped take care of me – and after a while, I helped take care of her. Lilian could see how close we were, and so she gave me to Rain.”}
A real smile showed on the Espeon’s face now. {“A couple years later, after the epidemic ended, Rain set out to be a Pokemon trainer...we went through all four regions, actually, in the course of five or six years. We mostly battled, although we did some contests too. I guess it was good that Rain started out with quite a few Pokemon though, because she had a rule for herself – she wouldn’t capture a Pokemon unless it wanted to go with her. It was rather strange, considering the things others did, but it did mean all of us were very close to Rain…her abilities didn’t hurt either. We did return to Cameron two years ago…unfortunately, we only finished the gym and Elite Four challenges in Kanto and Johto…but Rain really wanted to come home, and so we did. We’ve lived here ever since, but I know that Rain wants to go out again one day...”}
Finally, Lily stopped, was silent for a moment, then glanced at Umbra, smiling apologetically and blushing. {“I’m sorry…I was going on and on, wasn't I?...”}
ooc;; Heh heh...sorry for the ridiculously long post and story. ^-^"

Umbra only grinned wider. "{Not at all, I like to hear your voice. It's a good story too. It's always nice to share. I don't think certain things need to be kept bottled up. Better to get it out, unless of course it;s a deep, personal thing between two others.}"
A pause. "{I guess in a way, this means you and I are rivals doesn't it? It's quite strange really... We all want the same thing, we came from similar pasts, and believe it or not, Silver had a similar view, he never caught pokemon unless they were in danger or decided to join our little family.}"
A pause, and Umbra grinned. "{Already hit the Elite Four hmm? I find that hard to believe, considering how hard we worked for it... Perhaps Silver is over preparing. You the current champs? I imagine someone got that year of the title already.}"

Lily gave a small smile. {"It was hard work, preparing for the Elite Four...of course, Rain had a bit of an advantage, considering Blaze, Aria, Mugen, and I had already been trained before hand...Blaze was her father's strongest and most loyal Pokemon -- her father was a former gym leader...he'd retired a while back, but not before his Pokemon had become very strong...and Aria and Mugen belonged to Rain's mother, who was a coordinator."}
A grin. {"Of course, Rain's abilities didn't hurt either...it gave her a stronger connection with all her Pokemon...but it was really her dedication that did it, I think. We worked vigorously, and often Rain would have us split up into groups to train so that we could do so more efficiently..."}
Lily's expression became thoughtful. {"But...I'm actually not sure if we're still the champions...we're not the champions to fight, that's for sure...Rain didn't want to stay in one place, so she left the old champion the title...but I haven't been keeping up with the news of the leagues, so I'm not sure. It's been a while though, so I'd imagine someone's managed to defeat the champion between then and now."}

Umbra grinned. "{Or the master.... Noone has been able to beat him for years, and his title is unchallenged... I don't think anyone in the world can really fight him yet. They would be humbled.}"
The master... His identity was unknown now... Rumor had it he had been camping out in the Silver mountains of Johto... The strongest trainer in all the land. Rumor had it he was once a trainer from Pallet Town of Kanto.
They said his pokemon went beyond mere levels. Their power rivaled the legendaries themselves, they were almost like mortal gods among pokemon. Rumor also had it that he had such a strong connection with his team, he stayed away from human contact... Preferring his pokemon... The rare descriptions of a trainer fighting him describe him as not even using any words... The pokemon know what they are doing... They instinctively know what he wanted from him...
The master's nickname was Red... Only a few people know his real name.
"{Silver claims he just wants to beat the elite Four in Johto and become champ, maybe even one day open up his own gym. But I think he is crazy enough, and maybe even good enough that one day we would last more than 5 seconds against the master.}"

Lily blinked then slowly smiled. {"Ahhhhhh...I know who you're talking about...the one they call Red, right?"} The Espeon grinned. {"Yes...his power, his Pokemon, and his bond with them are all legendary..."} Lily looked thoughtful. {"Rain admires him greatly, I know that...she doesn't say it much...she admires his close bond with his Pokemon as well as his power, and when she was younger, she wanted to be just like him -- a Pokemon master...she once had a dream to go up against him, actually..."}
The Espeon suddenly sighed sadly. {"Unfortunately...she might never have a chance. She would be able to become strong someday, I know it...but...her abilities...she's tied to Cameron and the Tree. She has a duty to this place, just as her ancestors have before her..."} Lily looked away, looking up at the stars. {"I don't know if you can truly comprehend Rain's life Umbra..."} she said quietly, almost to herself. {"Tt's a hard thing to understand...even I don't get completely what she goes through..."}
