It was cold and slightly misty out in the arena... The quiet seemed to penetrate the area, regardless of the muffled talking and laughter inside the palace not too far away. The stands across the sides of the long field were presumably empty... No battles were going on at the moment.
But in the far corner of the arena was Silver, bundled up in a black jacket with a fake fur collar of white near the neckline. He was wearing dark gray sweatpants and black sneakers on his lower body. Currently the trainer was sitting bored on one of the metal benches, clicking through his white pokedex.
Suchi, his female scizor was nearby one of the concrete pillars, yellow eyes closed and arms folded, her red shell gleaming dully in the low light.
Umbra, Silver's umbreon and his starter, was curled up at Silver's feet taking a nap, long black ear occasionally twitching.
Theo, Silver's alakazam, was currently meditating a little ways off, fox-like face contemplative and slanted eyes closed. His two spoons were held gently in each hand as he gathered, pulsed, and rippled the energy around him.
Jet, Silver's buizel, was a little ways away... Being Jet... Most likely folding his arms and looking bored/unconcerned with those around him.
Kriss, Silver's sableye was fidgeting and muttering to herself as she nibbled on a cookie next to Theo.

OOC: *squees* A Sableye nibbling on a cookie! I can picture the adorableness now x3
IC: It was one of those rare days today; Casey hated rare days. Rare days meant deviating from a scheduled routine to do something else, and Casey hated deviation. The little boy, as young as he was, had his ruts, and he was very comfortable in them. The eight-year old found peace through mindless repetition but deviation, rarity, required thinking and alertness. Anyone who thought thinking did you good had obviously never thought anything bad before. Awareness was synonymous to pain whereas repetition left him alone in his shell of numbness, but his mind was not numb at the moment, for he was not in the kitchen cleaning dishes like he usually did.
Today he'd been asked to wipe down the stands in the arena, and if applicable, to keep an eye on anyone that might be using the arena to practice. Many trainers and coordinators liked to use the vacant arena to practice their skills with their pokemon and they sometimes damaged the field. While it was never minded, the arena staff always liked to know in advance if they needed to fill in any holes, repaint the lines, put out any fires, or anything else of the like. Casey had never seen a pokemon up close before. He'd sometimes see Pidgey in the courtyard but they would always fly away if a human came too close. Were pokemon more like people or animals, or something else? They certainly sounded dangerous, and the brown-haired boy had no intention of ever meeting one up close.
Fate had a strange way of messing with him that day, however. When Casey arrived at the arena with a handful of rags at his side his blue eyes widened. Sitting on a bench was a boy who looked older than he was, and his hair was white! Even more shocking were the amount of powerful-looking pokemon that were scattered around the stadium, doing various things from sleeping to eating. Any thought of trying to get through this task with a sleep-like mindset disappeared as the boy was now fully awake. The awareness hurt, like walking into a warm building after being outside in the snow. Still, Casey had a job to do, and if he wanted to stay out of an orphanage, he had to appear useful. Gripping the rags in his hand, he walked towards a bench that sat below the wall of the arena and began to wipe, unpleasantly aware that the pale-haired boy was only a few benches away.

Silver was currently lost in thought, with his blue eyes closed and hands folded as they rested under his chin. He was going through battle plans, strategies, etc... And simply did not notice the boy cleaning the benches nearby.
The league was in Silver's head... Taking note of records, elite four pokemon, potential rivals, and past champions as well as other trainers that showed promise. The real world wasn't currently available to him... He was in his trance like state that he always seemed to have when he was in a battle... Commanding orders... And tasting victory.
Theo knew a new human presence was nearby, but being deep in his meditations, did not bother letting the young human know he was there.
Suchi, ever observant, watched Casey walk in with her sharp yellow eyes. The female scizor took note of every detail... The rather shabby clothing perplexed the pokemon, and the fact the boy was cleaning was even more confusing... Where were his parents?... Suchi considered awakening her trainer from his reflections, but he seemed busy intensely concentrated on what he was doing... Better not to question it. But the scizor kept her intense yellow gaze on the little boy, form still and slightly curious.
Umbra's ringed ears twitched once when he heard Casey's approach, and opening his silver/red eyes at the boy cleaning not too far away with a curious expression, head slightly tilted, ear cocked. He then grinned and stood up... And the next thing that happened was him purring like a cat and rubbing against Casey's legs, asking for some petting or attention, like his personality demanded.

Alarm bells went off in his mind as something brushed up against his leg. It was warm and furry and Casey could only guess what it was. Slowly looking down, the boy saw a black fox-like pokemon rubbing and purring against his leg. The hairs on the back of his neck stood up and he let out a whimper. What did this thing want? Was it trying to hurt him? Casey had heard of pokemon that oozed poison before, perhaps this was one of them and it was rubbing its toxins into his leg. Casey made a wordless grunt and waved a damp rag at the thing. Did it want something? Not knowing what to do, the boy dropped the rag on the pokemon's head and stepped back.

Umbra frowned slightly as he felt the rag descend on his head... Looking perplexed for a moment, the male umbreon shook the rag of his head and tited his head at Casey with a whimper. Kriss, who just noticed the scene, laughed an eerie, impish little laugh, pointy finger extended to the group as she did so.
This knocked Silver out of his trance and he glanced sharply up at Casey and Umbra. He furrowed his brow and issued a sharp whistle, causing Umbra's ears to perk and and run back to his trainer.
The young trainer took note of the boy seriously as he stood up. "I'm sorry if he bothered you... If you would have said something, I would have called him off sooner. He never means anything by it... Just a butterball for attention."

Casey said nothing and simply bent over to pick up the rag. The other pokemon's laugh rang through his head and sent shivers down his spine. It was such a human-like laugh, but the pokemon was so... Ghoulish. He looked up and saw the black and yellow pokemon standing by the other boy. "What is he?" The question just slipped out. He hadn't meant to ask, but curiosity burned through him like fire in his veins. They were all so different looking, so strange and unusual, and it frightened him. Now more than ever Casey just wanted to retreat back to a corner of his mind and let the world go on without him, but he couldn't. He was fully aware now, and it would be awhile before he would be allowed to go back.

Silver smiled somewhat at the question, bewnding down and petting Umbra behind the long black ears he had. "He's an umbreon... An evee evolution." He murmered as the male umbreon purred, red eyes narrowed contently. "He's my starter, my first pokemon."

Casey watched the "Umbreon" with interest. The boy had never seen any creature like it; was it a cat or a dog? It purred like a cat, but it had ears like a fox. Suddenly he was aware of someone, or something, staring at him. If one was sensitive enough you could feel it too, and it felt like being zeroed out in a crowd of people. Casey turned and saw the single biggest bug he'd ever seen. It was red and shiny and had a pair of huge pincers for crushing and cutting. Its eyes were gold and focused acutely on him. The boy pointed a finger at the creature and asked the white-haired boy, "Is that your pokemon too?"

Silber followed the finger with his blue eyes and smiled as it landed on Suchi. "Why yes. That is Suchi my scizor. I got her several years ago... Looked like she got mangled by predators, and I nursed her back... Refused to leave me afterwards..." The white heaired trainer walked up to Suchi, and only a few feet away, the two calmly stared into each other's eyes.
"I decided I liked the honor and loyalty of having a syther... And we she evolved, she became a powerful member of my party."
Silver momentarily glanced at his whole team... Umbra the umbreon, Suchi the scizor, Kriss the sableye, Theo the alakazam, and Jet the buizel. "Umbra is my defensive tank. Umbreons have an godly stamina and ability to resist special attacks, and even physical ones. I usually pump up his attacking abilities during battle to give him an edge over my opponents. Suchi is my physical attacker. Using speed and agility and strategy to avoid my opponents, I wait for a opening with her to fulfill a devastating blow. Kriss, the black impish creature with jewel-like eyes, is my status dealer... Poison, confusion, sleep, curses, and nasty special attacks hinder my opponents. Theo, the yellow fox-creature with the mustache is my special attacker. I use his psychic abilities to summon barriers, revover from damage, and deal devastating damage to my opponents. And Jet is the buizel... The brown furred creature with two tails... I only got him recently, and I have yet to find his place on my team."

Casey simply nodded and stared at the other boy as he spoke. In reality he had no idea what the trainer was talking about, but he got the basic idea. These creatures were extremely powerful and competitive, and they fought each other for sport. The brown-haired boy started wringing the rag in his hands and looked at his shoes. "But pokemon sound dangerous..." He whispered. "They could hurt you if they wanted to. They could kill you. Aren't you afraid?" He began wringing the cloth more worryingly, and glanced at the red insect next to him, but not meeting its eyes. These pokemon were so frightening, yet so tame. In his mind they were like a champagne bottle ready to burst and unleash their fury on an unwitting trainer. How could someone enjoy spending their time so dangerously?

Silver blinked at the boy, slightly shocked... He understood how some people didn't like pokemon, or were even scared of them... Silver grew up with them all his life, so although he DID respect their boundaries, he never had any reason to fear them. He looked thoughtful for a long time, before he finally said, "Pokemon are powerful. They can be dangerous too. But so are people... Unlike people, pokemon rarely attack for any other reason other than to defend themselves or hunt if they are carnivores. Mind you, there are some that are extremely dangerous... Gyarados, steelix, onix, ursaring, etc, that require a very disciplined trainer to use or fight against. These pokemon are actually are actually purposelessly aggressive and dangerous to people... But even they give warnings to back off first. And then there the pokeballs... They tame the violent instincts that can potentially hurt a person, allowing personal connection between pokemon and trainer to form... That way a pokeball becomes almost unnecessary. As you can see, I usually let my pokemon roam instead of in their balls."
"I'm not afraid of my team..." Silver went on with a small smile at his group. "I trust them, and they trust me. We have been through a lot, and we have more to go through before we hit championship and attempt the Elite Four in Johto."
Silver then glanced at Casey as he glanced away from his scizor... And Suchi shuffled her feet self consciously, glancing down at her form. Was she that scary to small ones?
"Would you like to touch her? She won't hurt you."
Suchi glanced at her trainer with wide, surprised yellow eyes and knelt down before Casey one one leg, so she didn't seem so big.
Umbra started purring beside Silver, trying to look as adorable as possible so he could actually get petted too.

OOC: Lol. Umbra is an adorable attention hog x3
IC: Casey stiffened and stared at Silver, shock spread all over his face. Touch her? Won't hurt him? How could this boy possibly guarantee that? The cleaning boy gulped and looked back at Suchi. Though she was on one knee she was still quite larger than Casey, at least by a head-height. Light gleamed off of her wickedly strong claws, red like spilled blood. The boy's hands started trembling at the thought of what the huge bug pokemon could do to him and he took a fearful step back.
Then he heard a low rumbling sound coming from somewhere. Casey looked by Silver's feet and realized that the Umbreon was purring like a cat. Very loudly. All he wanted was attention and to be petted. The black fox-like pokemon looked so innocent and childish even Casey couldn't find it in himself to distrust Umbra. The boy then looked back at Suchi and back at her claws. He made up his mind and took a step back towards her. The boy squeezed his eyes shut and reached out with a trembling hand, slowly approaching the bug pokemon's hide. Then, just when Casey was about to jerk his fingers back, he did it. He touched a pokemon for the first time.
Slowly, fearfully, he opened his eyes and saw that his hand was resting on Suchi's claw. He knew that he should've been afraid, but the female was so still and placid, and he felt his confidence begin to rise. The boy then slid his fingers down towards the tip of her pincers and studied the sensation with interest. "She feels like metal..." He whispered in awe, lifting his hand to stroke Suchi again. Her armored shell felt cold and smooth like steel and Casey had no doubt that it protected its wearer well during battle.

The bug pokemon tilted her head quizzically at Casey, and then at Silver, before turning her yellow eyes back at Casey. She looked... Sort of pleased. Pleased that she wasn't something to be afraid of for this little boy.
"She's part steel type, though she is technically a bug pokemon. Her shell gives her protection... The only thing I have to watch out for are fire types and fire based attacks." Silver smiled. "But we are developing strategies to counter that aren't we Suchi?"
The female scizor blinked her yellow eyes, but then turned to the purring umbreon around Casey's legs.
"<You are too much Umbra.>" Suchi stated with a small smirk. "<Are you really that much of an attention hog?>"
Umbra only purred more. "<I love children. They usually pet me.>"

Casey looked down as he heard the purring grow louder. There was Umbra, sitting there with his eyes wide and an expectant look on his face. You didn't have to read minds or speak pokemon to know that the Umbreon desperately wanted attention. Deciding to comply, the boy knelt down and held his hand out, inviting the pokemon to be petted. "My name's Casey." Said the boy, surprising himself. It'd been a very, very long time since he'd introduced himself to anyone, but this day was just full of surprises.

"<Ooh yes... Behind the ears please...>" Umbra purred, red eyes slanted in pleasure.
Silver tilted his head at the little boy as Suchi walked back to her trainer. He wasn't sure if the statement was directed at Umbra or at him, but regardless, Silver said honestly, "It's nice to meet you Casey."
Then a thoughtful pause. "Have you thought about getting your own pokemon Casey? Nothing to battle or compete with persay, but a companion?"
