Yeah, I know you guys are sick of these changes right now...which is why this is NOT announcing a change, it's giving a choice.
Here's the thing. I try to make the level-up system as "realistic" as possible without making it practically impossible to gain a level like it sometimes is in games. That's kind of why I had the one-level-per-thread thing. But honestly, it's always bothered me. It doesn't make sense. It's like you getting stronger just by sitting around and talking.
So this is my proposition: get rid of the one-level-per-thread all together, BUT let Pokemon gain more levels through battle as well as maybe through training threads. Before you shoot this idea down, let me explain.
The level-up system would be more complicated, but it would go something like this:
If you win a battle and... ...the opponent is lower level than you, you gain one level. ...the opponent is one to ten levels higher than you, you gain two levels. ...the opponent is more than ten levels higher than you, you gain three levels
If you lose a battle and... ...the opponent is lower level than you, you gain no levels ...the opponent is one to ten levels higher than you, you gain one level. ...the opponent is more than ten levels higher than you, you gain two levels.
You would also be able to make training threads; you could post with your Pokemon training and, if you want, a goal for how many levels you want the Pokemon to gain. An admin would then read your thread and decide how many levels each Pokemon should gain. These threads could be just a one post thread if you just want it to be your trainer/Pokemon training privately; just make sure you indicate, preferably in the title, that it is a training thread.
In my opinion, this would be a more realistic and logical way of leveling, if not a bit more confusing. However, I do understand that different people will have different opinions on this, so please post and tell me what you think. Please do NOT just post saying "I like it," or "I hate it," explain why.
Thanks guys! --Rain

I dunno. I was kinda content with the leveling system we have now. In my experience, simple is always better, even though this system technically makes more sense.

Personally, I prefer that one too in terms of simplicity. However, the problem I have with it is two things: One, it makes less sense in terms of the logic of leveling up, especially with the fact they gain levels every thread, which is kinda made worse by liquid time. And two, it makes it really easy to gain levels.
Of course, the other option to make it more realistic is to eliminate the one-level-per-thread thing and just leave it as it is otherwise, but that would make it extremely hard to gain levels.

Why not just make it so they gain one level per battle? Simple yet realistic. =]

That would certainly be the simplest way. xD The only thing is that would make it rather hard to gain levels, especially since on here, people don't battle much. But it would certainly be more realistic. xD

No... I'm just going to say no... I'm tired of constantly updating changes. It's irritating. I would like to stick with the old system a tad longer until we make updates.

I can honestly say it's not likely I'll keep the old system. Personally, I don't like it. Can I try and make the new system simpler, like Snowy said? Sure. But change is definitely going to happen eventually; it just depends on how long it takes to agree on the best system.
Honestly, it's not that hard. I mean, if it's really that difficult to remember everything, we'll just go with Snowy's idea of one level per battle even if it is extremely hard to gain levels.

We could make it one level if the opponent is your level or lower, and two if they're higher. Basically your system, but simplified.

Hmm... Yeah I like that idea. ;D I wouldn't have to be back here checking every time we had a battle.

Sure. I'm all for simplicity. xD However, there is the whole thing about if you lose a battle...how about that's the system for if you win the battle, and then one level for losing to someone higher and no levels for losing to someone lower? Or do we just go with that for win or lose (which I don't really like, but whatever).
Also, anyone have any opinion on the training thread idea? Good idea, bad idea, suggestions?

I say just go with it for win or lose. In the games wild pokemon are tiered based on an estimate on where the players will be in the game. On here pokemon's levels are all over the place, and we don't want to encourage god-moding to get levels.

Point...so it's one for under, two for over for everyone then? Sounds good to me.
Still any opinions on the training thread idea?
