Umbra, 65
Ah yes... Umbra loved this time of day. Or a better word, no day. The field was encased in moonlit darkness. The grass swayed slightly, like black tentacles on the dark blue ground. The sky was filled with glittering stars, and the moon was full, casting an eerie white light on the once cheerful expanse of flowers and long grass. Said flowers were now tucked away for the night, allowing new creatures to roam the plains. Creatures like Umbra. The male umbreon was in good shape. His sleek, pitch black pelt that was almost invisible in the dark, rippled with lean, hard muscle. The only thing really visible were his red eyes, as well as the gold rings on his forehead, ears, tail, and legs that glowed brightly occasionally. He stalked the fields, smile evident on his face. He was in his element. He was encased in it. And boy, did he enjoy the peace it brought. He moved silently, soft, almost nonexistent as he patrolled the area.

Laela sneezed. She needed to get back home. She started to cross the lush meadows. She was scared. Maybe if she had evolved into an umbreon she wouldn't be afraid, but that would never happen now. She didn't like the dark. She hurried fasted to get back to her safe den. the next thing she knew she was on the ground rolling. She had tripped over somthing . Now she got jammed into the roots of a fallen tree. They entangeled her. She couldn't move. When she tried to move she cut her shoulder and screamed. She would have to wait untill morning to try and get help.

Umbra's smile vanished instantly as his extremely keen ears picked up shrieking sounds... Eerily familiar shrieking sounds. He then blurred as he raced towards the source of the sound, red eyes flashing over every detail, trying to find the source. They widened when they fell upon the evee, a rather sickly evee, who was tangled up in the roots. That was very bad. She would make easy prey for any of the savage wild pokemon that were around this area, but Umbra knew they left him alone. He could kick most of their butts in just a few seconds. "{Whoa there scrap. Take it easy. Thrashing ain't gonna help ya. Relax... Umbra here will get you out.}" He said this in a joking matter, red eyes and smile kind as he worked on the vines. This would hopefully set the poor evee at ease, so Umbra could help her.}"

Laela was about to give up when she heard speech that was so much easier for her to understand. She had had no idea how hard t wwas for her to understand other pokemon untill she heard this. It was like the speech was tuned into her thoughts to make her understand perfectly. Then she heard the words. She looked up with curiosity and suspicion in her eyes. She stopped moving. <"Who are you?"> She started to ask but then she relised how hard it was to make herself speak like that. She tried to imitate the Umbreon. {"What do you want?"} She was surprised at how easily it came to her. She would have to try talking like this more often.

It didn't take long for the umbreon to break through the vines, using his teeth to very carefully shred through the tree roots. He stuck his tongue out, trying to rub out the bitter, herbal taste with his paw. "{Therthbbth... Hold on... Thats better. My name is Umbra. And you my friend..."}" Umbra stated, taking a whiff of the air around her, lips curling back in worry, "{Smell just a little ill... Are you okay?}"

{"Hi Umbra. Wow. I've never met an umbreon before. In fact I'm the only eeveelotion I've ever met. I just have a small cold, that's all."} She stoped for a moment then said. {"Why is speaking like this easier? I've never spoken like this before."}. She imidiately regreted it. It made her sound so stupid. She tried not to let it show.

Umbra smiled in reassurance. "{Well thats a relief... Thought you might be in serious trouble.}" He then glanced at her curiously when she asked what would normally be a very basic question. "{Well kid, there is two ways of speaking....}" Umbra grinned again. "<There is this... What I am speaking is the most basic language of all pokemon. It is common, no matter what type they are or element, anyone can understand you speaking this...>" Umbra paused. "{What I am speaking now is unique. Its our native language. Any evolved forms or evees such as yourself can understand this, but noone else can. It feels more natural, because it's OUR language and noone else's. Every pokemon species has their own.}" Puffing his black chest proudly, Umbra stated, "{Being eveelutions, we have the ability to speak our native language to the most pokemon, because we are the very embodiment of adaptability.}"

{"Cool!"} She said finally understanding. {"I'm Laela by the way."} She had always wanted to be an umbreon. She looked at him with admiration in her eyes. She smiled. {"Thanks by the way. I could have been stuck there till morning if you hadn't come along. Maybe even longer."} The eevee admited, although it was pretty obvious.
OOC: Sorry about making you explain that. Laela is turning out to be a horribly naive character. XD

"No prob." Umbra stated with a dismissive flick of his black tail. He looked down at Laela with a small smile and warm red eyes. "Sides... Doesn't seem too natural to leave kin around. we evees and eveelutions need to stick together. Thats my motto, but... Are you sure about that... "cold" that you have? I know someone who could probably help ya."

Laela froze. Help her? She didn't think there was any regular pokemon that could help her much. {"Who?"} She barely whispered.

The umbreon grinned. "{What? Ya didn't think I traveled alone did ya? I got a trainer, and he looks out for those like you. I doubt he'd keep you unless you wanted to, but he would treat ya regardless...}"
